If you watch the news, check social media or talk with friends, it doesn't take long to see that we live in a
Broken World.
We see a lot of anger, hate, evil, disease, depression & death.
We also see signs of beauty in this world, such as the laughter of a child or a sunset. These are glimpses of how God first created this world as His
Perfect Design.
For a time, God had a perfect relationship with people.
"And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good." Genesis 1:31a
We, as a people, chose to go our own way, turning away from God. This departure from God is called
Sin.
God is so loving and just that he simply cannot leave evil and sin unpunished. Sin is what separates us from God and what ultimately leads us to death.
"But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear." Isaiah 59:2
"For the wages of sin is death." Romans 6:23a
No one wants to live in brokenness, so we
Try to Escape.
We use our jobs, relationships, good works, drugs, alcohol or other attempts to escape on our own. These do not last, but often snap us back even deeper into brokenness.
"There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death." Proverbs 14:12
But God loved us so much that He had a plan to restore our broken lives back to Himself. How?
Jesus Christ.
Jesus, who is God, came down to Earth and lived a perfect life. He allowed himself to be killed on a cross as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Three days later, He overcame death and rose from the grave!
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
Jesus says you can be saved if you
Repent & Believe.
Have faith in your heart that Jesus died for your sins and rose from the grave. Seek forgiveness for your sins. Turn from your old ways, and make Jesus the king of your life!
"Repent and believe in the gospel." Mark 1:15b
"But the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23b
Through faith in Jesus, we receive His Spirit as a helper. God sees us as righteous rather than as sinners. We are a
New Creation.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." 2 Corinthians 5:17
Most people identify themselves as being in one of two places:
- 1) Restored with God
- 2) Stuck in Brokenness
